On Aug. 1, the 2013 Annual Meeting of Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES) opened in Kunming City. MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing attended the meeting and delivered an important speech. On Aug. 2, MEP held an extended study session for the central group of the ministerial leading party members' group & report meeting on pursuing mass line, serving the people and upholding integrity in Beijing. On Aug. 5, MEP and Ministry of Agriculture jointly issued Circular on Strengthening Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources and EIA Management.
From Aug. 7 to 8, the 2013 National Workshop on Environmental Policies and Regulations was held in Xi’an City. MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue attended the workshop and made remarks. Vice Governor of Shaanxi Provincial Government Zhang Daohong attended the workshop and gave a speech.
On Aug. 14, MEP issued Technical Guidance on Analysis of Sources of Atmospheric Particulate Matter (on trial).
On the same day, MEP issued State of Environmental Quality of China for the First Half of 2013.
On Aug. 15-16, the 2013 National Meeting for EPB Directors opened in Beijing. The meeting conveys messages of important speeches made recently by central leaders such as General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on environmental work. MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian chaired the meeting. MEP Vice Ministers Pan Yue, Wu Xiaoqing, Zhou Jian, Li Ganjie and Zhai Qing, Zhou Ying, head of Discipline Inspection Group, He Jie, member of the ministerial leading party members’ group, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai and Chief Engineer on Nuclear Safety Liu Hua attended the meeting.
On Aug. 16, MEP approved two standards as national standards for environmental protection including Ambient air and stationary source emission - Determination of metals in ambient particulate matter - Inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), which will be put into effect upon Sep. 1, 2013.

On Aug. 21, MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue visited Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy (PRCEE) of MEP to investigate the educational practice of the Party's mass line.
On Aug. 22, Secretary of MEP leading party members' group, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian chaired an enlarged study session of the central group of the ministerial leading party members' group. The meeting studied and conveyed the message of national meeting on publicity and ideology work and CPC Central Committee on the educational practice of the Party's mass line and made arrangement for strengthening environmental supervision. MEP Vice Ministers Pan Yue, Wu Xiaoqing, Zhou Jian, Li Ganjie and Zhai Qing, Zhou Ying, head of Discipline Inspection Group, He Jie, member of the ministerial leading party members’ group and Chief Engineer Wan Bentai attended the meeting. On Aug. 26, the Fourth Session of the 12th NPC Standing Committee held the first plenary meeting in Beijing. Entrusted by the State Council, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian explained the proposed bills of adding nine persistent organic pollutants and endosulfan respectively to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
On Aug. 27, MEP held a work meeting to tackle serious air pollution in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Province and the surrounding areas in Beijing. Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Ding Xiangyang and MEP Vice Minister Zhai Qing attended the meeting and made remarks.
On Aug. 28, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian met with Ms. Elba Rosa Perez Montoya, Minister for Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba in Beijing and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
On Aug. 29, MEP held the inception meeting on EIA of the development strategy for central China in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing attended the meeting and made remarks.
The kick-off meeting of 2013 special law enforcement inspection on environmental supervision was held on August 30 in Beijing. Zhou Ying, the member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of MEP and Head of Discipline Inspection Group sent by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of CPC to MEP, and Zhai Qing, Vice Minister of MEP, attended the meeting.
