On Feb. 7, MEP approved Stationary source emission -Determination of benzene soluble particulate matter - Soxhlet extraction gravimetric method and three other standards as national standards for environmental protection, which will be put into effect as of April 15, 2014.

On Feb. 10, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met with a delegation led by Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary of German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety in Beijing today. They exchanged views on issues of common concern.

On Feb. 11, Zhou Shengxian, Secretary of MEP leading party members' group, Minister and head of the leading group for comprehensively deepening reform, held the first leading group meeting in Beijing. The meeting made arrangement for reform in the field of environmental protection. The meeting announced the major measures and division of work concerning environmental protection set forth in the Decision of the third plenum of the 18th CPC, the formation of MEP leading group and office for comprehensively deepening reform and the rules of the leading group. The meeting also deliberated and adopted the Implementing Rules for MEP Leading Group Office for Comprehensively Deepening Reform and Proposals for Division of Tasks on Reform in 2014.  Members of MEP leading group on comprehensive deepening of reform, Pan Yue, Wu Xiaoqing, Zhou Ying, Zhou Jian, Zhai Qing, He Jie, Wan Bentai, Liu Hua and members of the leading group office attended the meeting.

On the same day, the Information Office of the State Council held a press conference in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Zhai Qing presented the progress of environmental work in 2013 and took questions by Chinese and foreign reporters.

On Feb. 12, Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang chaired the executive meeting of the State Council, studying and making arrangement on strengthening prevention and control of air pollution.

On the same day, MEP formulated Guidelines for Reviewing Operation Permit of Hazardous Waste including Waste Mercury Chloride Catalyst in order to strengthen supervision after the approval of operation permit was delegated to provincial (autonomous region and municipality) EPBs and to standardize the approval of the permit.

On Feb. 13, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian chaired the ministerial executive meeting in Beijing, conveying the gist of the executive meeting of the State Council held on Feb. 12. The meeting also discussed the Action Plan on Water Pollution Control (to be approved) and deliberated and adopted Measures for Assessment of Action Plan on Air Pollution Control (draft) in principle.  MEP Vice Ministers Pan Yue, Wu Xiaoqing, Zhou Jian, Li Ganjie and Zhai Qing, head of the Discipline Inspection Group in MEP Zhou Ying, Member of Leading Party Members' Group of MEP He Jie,MEP Chief Engineer Wan Bentai and Chief Engineer on Nuclear Safety Liu Hua attended the meeting. Heads from related departments observed the meeting.

On Feb. 19, MEP approved five standards as national standard for environmental protection including Technical guidelines for environmental site investigation. These standards will be put into effect as of July 1, 2014.

On Feb. 25, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian met with US former Treasury Paulson in Beijing and they exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern.

On Feb. 26, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met with a delegation led by Luis Echávarri, Director-General of OECD Nuclear Agency in Beijing. They exchanged views on topics of common concern.
