Southwest China's Guiyang was among the entrants of the first group in the 2018 Ecological Civilization Model City list, which was released at the 5th Green Development Summit held in Beijing on Jan 20.

Guiyang boasts a forest coverage rate of 48.66 percent, and the green coverage rate of its developed area is 41.13 percent, with the per capita public green area being 12.88 square meters.

The water quality in its centralized drinking water sources fully reaches national standards, and the excellent rate of its air quality is above 95 percent.

During recent years, Guiyang has developed about 600 ecological civilization units, nine national ecological towns, 33 provincial ecological towns, and 172 provincial ecological villages, successively holding five sessions of the Eco Forum Global.

Guiyang has made 326 technological reform projects in traditional industries. Guiyang's industrial structure proportion has been optimized three times in 2017, making the deep integration index of big data and real economy to be 42.5 and the added value of high-tech industries reaching 14.291 billion yuan ($2.1 billion).

With the development of industries featuring ecological utilization, circular efficiency, low carbon, and environmental governance, Guiyang's green economy accounts for 39 percent of its GDP, making it outstanding in China's green development.

The Green Development Summit has been successfully hosted four times since 2014. This session focused on green development and the future, further unifying all green elements and innovative modes, with the theme of establishing platforms with targeted functions.
