Today, Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced the theme for the 2018 World Environment Day-“Act towards a Beautiful China”, with an aim to boost all walks of life and the general public to actively contribute to the building of ecological civilization and work together to develop a beautiful country that enjoys blue skies, green lands, and clean waters.
The report to the 19th National Congress of the CPC has specifically proposed to accelerate the institutional reform on ecological civilization, build a beautiful China, and develop China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful. It is the first time “beauty” has ever been identified as one of the concrete objectives for striving to develop China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. This year’s government work report proposed that “we will work together to develop a beautiful country that enjoys blue skies, green lands, and clean waters”.
A beautiful China is for everyone to build and enjoy. This year’s theme has been set to call on the whole society to contribute to ecological and environmental matters, respect, conform to, and protect nature, cherish the ecology and environment the way we cherish our eyes, and treat them the way we treat our lives, and accelerate the pace to develop green growth models and life styles, so that our country will enjoy bluer skies, greener mountains, cleaner waters, and a more beautiful environment, that the philosophy that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” will be acted upon and brought to reality in our country.
The Ministry will hold a major event around the theme “Act towards a Beautiful China” to celebrate the World Environment Day, and local areas will also organize theme activities, in order to build social consensus and create a healthy environment for the whole nation to participate in the building of a beautiful China.
