The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution, protecting the environment, ensuring human health and standardizing the method of determining the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 in ambient air. The current standard specifies the gravimetric method for determining the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 in ambient air. The current standard is applicable to manual determination of the concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 in ambient air. The current standard is the amendment of Determination of the Concentration of Airborne Particulate Matters (GB 6921-86). The current standard was released for the first time in 1986 and this is the first amendment. The national environmental protection standard Determination of the Concentration of Airborne Particulate Matters (GB 6921-86) approved and released by the former State Environmental Protection Administration on October 10, 1986 shall be nullified since the date when the current standard goes into effect.
