This standard is formulated for the purposes of enforcing the Environment Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, and the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People’s Republic of China, preventing the pollution of the environment by exhaust pollutants from marine engines, and improving the ambient air quality. This standard specifies the limits and measurement methods for exhaust pollutants from compression-ignition engines and positive-ignition gas (bi-fuel) engines used by vessels (hereinafter referred to as marine engines). This standard shall apply to the type test, check of the conformity of production, and durability requirements of the type 1 and type 2 marine engines used by river boats, coastal boats, river-sea through ships, channel ships (ferries), and fishing boats. This standard also specifies the emission requirements of the vessels and marine engines after overhaul.
