This standard is formulated for the purposes of enforcing the Environment Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, and the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People’s Republic of China, preventing and controlling the pollution of the environment by the air pollutants from marine engines, and improving the ambient air quality. It specifies the limits and measurement methods for exhaust pollutants from the compression-ignition engines and positive-ignition engines (including powered by duel fuels) (hereinafter referred to as the marine engines) installed on marine vessels. This standard shall apply to the type inspection, check of the conformity of production, and durability requirements for the type 1 and type 2 marine engines installed on inland waterway vessels, coasters, sea-river-through ships, channel ships, and fishing boats. It also specifies the emission requirements for the marine vessels and the marine engines after overhaul.
