This standard is formulated for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China and Law of the People's Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Radioactive Pollution, preventing and controlling radioactive pollution, improving the environmental quality, and protecting the public health. This standard provides the ambient radiation protection requirements for the siting, design, construction, operation, decommissioning, expansion, and alteration of land-based stationary nuclear power plants. This standard shall apply to land-based stationary nuclear facilities using light water reactor or heavy water reactor for power generation, and nuclear power plants using other types of reactors may refer to this standard. This standard is the amendment of the Regulations for environmental radiation protection of nuclear power plant (GB 6249-86). The standard Regulations for environmental radiation protection of nuclear power plant (GB 6249-86) shall be abolished as of the day this standards goes into effect.
