On Feb. 1, MEP held a gathering for celebrating the 2016 Spring Festival & a commendation meeting to award the advanced collectives and individuals in 2015. Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining extended congratulations on the upcoming New Spring. Deputy Secretary and Vice Minister Pan Yue chaired the event and announced the commendation notice. Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing, Leader of the Permanent Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, Vice Ministers Li Ganjie and Zhai Qing, Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin, Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua, and some senior leaders came to the event. Participants also included the staff of the internal departments, the leadership team of Beijing-based regional offices and affiliated institutions of MEP, leading officials of regional offices and affiliated institutions elsewhere in the country, and representatives of retired cadres.
On Feb. 2, MEP organized a briefing on checking the progress in implementation of the Eight Rules of the CPC Central Committee in the last six months of last year. Leader of the Permanent Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying spoke at the briefing.
On the same day, MEP adopted the Technical Specification for Wastewater Treatment Project of Caustic Alkali and Polyvinyl Chloride Industry, Solid Waste- Determination of 22 Metal Elements-Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry, and other three national environmental protection standards, which shall go to effect as of Mar. 1, 2016.
On Feb. 4, Minister Chen Jining paid visits to representatives of CAS and CAE Academicians in Beijing-based environmental branches and expressed sincere regards and New Spring blessings to them.
On Feb. 5, Minister Chen Jining visited and expressed regards to some staff at the emergency response positions, and sent them the New Spring regards and blessings on behalf of the Leading Party Group. Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing attended the tour.
On the same day, Minister Chen Jining paid a visit to Chen Tian, Director General of Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, who was in rehabilitation at home. Minister Chen sent New Spring blessings and wished him get well soon.
On Feb. 18, Minister Chen Jining attended a meeting with the Chinese and international news presses in Beijing, an event held by the State Council Information Office. He introduced China’s progress in environmental protection in 2015, and responded to the questions raised by journalists on the control of air pollution and the enforcement of the environment protection law.
On Feb. 23, Minister Chen Jining met with Battsereg Namdag, Mongolian Minister of Environment, Green Development, and Tourism, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on issues such as bilateral cooperation in the environment field.
On Feb. 24, Minister Chen Jining chaired the ministerial executive meeting, which conveyed the guidelines of related meetings held by the State Council, and considered and adopted in principle the Implementation Plan for the Programme on the Development of Eco-environment Monitoring Network (2016-2020), and Limits and Measurement Methods for Emissions from Motorcycles (China Ⅳ). Vice Ministers Pan Yue and Wu Xiaoqing, Leader of the Permanent Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, Vice Minister Zhai Qing, Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua attended the meeting. Participants also included leading officials of relevant internal departments.
On the same day, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining chaired a meeting among leading party members, to convey and study the guidelines of the important speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the 21st session of the Leading Group for Overall Reform under the CPC Central Committee, and move to make plans for the implementation of reform measures in the eco-environmental protection sector. Deputy Secretary and Vice Minister Pan Yue, leader of the Permanent Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, and Vice Ministers Li Ganjie and Zhai Qing attended the meeting. Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing, Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua observed the meeting.
On Feb. 25, MEP organized a videoconference on party style improvement and honesty among all branches of environmental protection in 2016. Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining spoke at the meeting, which was chaired by Zhou Ying, leader of the Permanent Discipline Inspection Group. Vice Minister Zhai Qing and Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin observed the meeting. The staff of the internal departments, the leadership team of Beijing-based regional offices and affiliated institutions, and Party affairs cadres attended the meeting at the auditorium of MEP. The leadership teams of the EPDs/EPBs of provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, cities separately listed in State plans, and the Liaohe River & Linghe River Nature Reserve Administration, as well as of the regional offices and affiliated institutions elsewhere participated at local meeting venues.
Between Feb. 25 and 26, the fifth meeting of China-Kazakhstan Joint Committee on Environmental Protection was held in Beijing. MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie and Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Asset Magauov headed respective delegations to the meeting. Li and Magauov exchanged views on issues of common concern and signed the minutes.
On Feb. 26, Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin interpreted at length the improvement of pollution permitting system in the first lecture at the "Environment Auditorium" of China Environment News Press.
On Feb. 29, www.chinaenvironment.info went live, and Vice Minister Pan Yue attended the inauguration ceremony.
On the same day, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Madame Louise Métivier, Assistant Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Canada. The two sides exchanged views on issues including Chinese-Canadian environmental cooperation.
On the same day, Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin met with Janet McCabe, EPA Assistant Administrator, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the environment field.
