Mr. He Jie, a special representative of MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian, member of MEP Leading Party Members Group and DG of MEP Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Arrangement heading a Chinese delegation attend the 11th ASEAN—China, Japan and Korea Environment Ministers Meeting and the Third East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand on September 27 at the invitation of Thailand Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and ASEAN Secretariat.
At the 11th ASEAN—China, Japan and Korea Environment Ministers Meeting, He Jie introduced the main achievements of China in the field of environmental protection over the past few years, the progress of China—ASEAN Environmental Cooperation and reiterated the good wishes of further strengthening cooperation with ASEAN.
He Jie said, environmental cooperation between China and ASEAN has made great progress under the attention of leaders and active participation and promotion of all parties over the past year. Based on the China—ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Strategy, the two sides adopted China—ASEAN Action Plan for Environmental Cooperation in September of 2011, held China—ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Forum and launched the Green Messages Initiative. China—ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Center and ASEAN Biodiversity Center have developed and implemented China—ASEAN Biodiversity and Ecological Conservation Cooperation Plan. China and ASEAN will conduct joint study and develop a platform for environment-friendly technologies and industrial cooperation.
Mr. He Jie pointed out that there is great potential and bright future for China and SEAN in environmental cooperation. The two sides should further strengthen communications and cooperation, share experience, work together and facilitate regional sustainable development.
ASEAN Secretariat and member countries spoke highly of China—ASEAN environmental cooperation and expressed thanks to the support and help of China and hoped to carry out further cooperation with China in the field of environment.
Mr. He Jie attended the Third East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting in the afternoon. He Jie said, the East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting is an important platform for regional environmental cooperation and plays an active role in concentrating common understanding and strength of all countries in the region in environmental protection and achieving regional sustainable development. With constructive attitude and focusing on the priority cooperation areas identified by the First East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting, China is willing to work with all countries in East Asia and facilitate the exchange and cooperation among all countries. The meeting reviewed the progress of cooperation projects including "High-Level Workshop on Cities with Environmental Sustainability" under the framework of East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting and discussed the appropriate way of materializing the achievements of UN Rio+20 Summit.
ASEAN—China, Japan and Korea Environment Ministers Meeting and East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting are important component of ASEAN—China, Japan and Korea Summit and East Asia Summit mechanism respectively, and a high-level platform for discussing environmental cooperation of the region. Ministry of Environmental Protection has attended all ASEAN—China, Japan and Korea Environment Ministers Meeting and East Asia Environment Ministers Meeting in the past.
