The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing relevant requirements of Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, Convention on Biological Diversity and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, scientifically assessing current status of genetic resources of our country, understanding its trend in time, controlling the loss of genetic resources and facilitating the protection and sustainable use of genetic resources. The current standard specifies the standard for classifying the categories of genetic resources in China, requirements for adjustment of classification and the documents & records that should be submitted during classifying the categories. The current standard is applicable to the classification of genetic resources with their place of origin being within the territory of the People’s Republic of China. The current standard is issued for the first time in China.
