The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementation of Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, enhancing the management of electromagnetic environment and safeguarding public health. The current standard is the integration and revision of Regulations for  Electromagnetic Radiation Protection (GB 8702-88) and Hygienic Standard for Environmental Electromagnetic Waves (GB 9175-88). The current standard refers to “ICNIRP Guidelines for Limiting Exposure to Time-Varying Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields (300GHz and less) (1998)”; and IEEE Standard for Safety Level of Human Exposure to 0~3kHz Electromagnetic Field and takes account of domestic practice on electromagnetic environment protection. With the precondition of meeting the limits of the current standard, the owners of facilities (equipment) generating electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields are encouraged to comply with the precautionary principle and take effective measures to reduce public exposure. The current standard specifies the limits and assessment method for public exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields (1Hz~300GHz) and exemption scope of relevant facilities (equipment). The current standard was released for the first time in 1988 and this is the first revision.
