The standard was formulated for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China and reducing the harm of production and use of leather and synthetic leather to the environment and human health. The standard sets requirements on pH value of leather and synthetic leather products and their dilution difference, indices of free formaldehyde, extractive heavy metal,chlorinated phenols, OPP, dyestuff decomposing cancer-inducing aromatic amine and smell. The standard also sets limits to volatile organic chemicals, organic tin chemicals, chlorobenzene and chlorinated toluenes in synthetic leather products. Some toxic and hazardous chemicals are banned for production. The standard is applicable to China environmental labeling product certification. The standard provides terminologies and definitions of leather and synthetic leather products with environmental labeling, their classification, basic requirement, technical content and determination method. The standard applies to leather and polyurethane synthetic leather.
