The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementation of Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, reducing the impacts of water based coatings on the environment and human health in the production and consumption process and protecting the environment. The current standard specifies the limit for hazardous substances in water-based coatings. The current standard is the revision of Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products ──Water-based Coatings (HJ/T 201-2005) with the following major changes: —— change of the application scope; ——change of the requirement for no artificial adding of substance—— adding the limits for glycol ether and its ester; ——making stricter limit for VOCs; —— making stricter limits for total amount of benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene. The current standard is applicable to certification of environmental labeling products in China.
