The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementation of Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China; promoting the application of information technology in environmental protection and standardizing metadata contents of environmental information resources. The current standard specifies the framework of environment information metadata. It specifies the contents of environment information metadata as well as the information such as the mark, content, management and maintenance of environment information dataset. Annex A, B and E of the current standard are normative annexes; while Annex C, D, F, G, H and I are informative annexes. The current standard is released for the first time.
