The standard was formulated for the purpose of enforcing the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, Law of the People's Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, Marine Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, and Fisheries Law of the People's Republic of China, preventing and controlling water pollution in fishery waters, ensuring the normal growth and breeding of fish, shrimp, shellfish and alga as well as the quality of aquatic products. The standard applies to seawater and freshwater fishery areas where fish and shrimp spawn, feed, live through the winter, migrate and breed.
