In support of the development of China's cause of publicity and education concerning environmental protection, in 1998,a subsidiary of Mobil Corporation (currently EXXON Mobil Corporation)in China donated RMB 10 million to CEEC to set up the Mobil China environment of the fund, the center set up a management committee and a secretariat, and drew up strict management rules on project applications, examination, supervision and management, thus insuring the successful implementation of the projects sponsored by the fund. From April 1998, When the fund started to be used, to 2001, over 60 projects were carried out, which involved various aspects of environmental publicity and education.

Mobil Fund's local projects deserve special mention. To improve local CEEC's ability to organize environmental publicity activities, from 1999 to 2001 the CEEC guided 24 local Mobil projects, and provided 0.9 million yuan for 14 provinces and autonomous regions. China's northwest regions, old revolutionary base areas, areas inhabited by minority nationalities, frontier areas and poor areas received especially generous to exchange experiences during the National Environmental Protection Communication and Education Working Conference. Mobil local projects have actively contributed to the improvement of local publicity and education centers' ability to plan and organize environmental protection activities.
