"Workshop on China-ASEAN Strategy on Environmental Protection Cooperation" was held by the Development of International Cooperation, Ministry of Environmental Protection during May 29-30, 2008. The meeting discussed the China-ASEAN Strategy on Environmental Protection Cooperation (Draft). Mr. Xu Qinghua, Director General of the Development of International Cooperation attended the meeting and gave guiding comments on the improvement of the Draft. Officials from such organizations as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDRC, Department of Science, Technology and Standard and Development of Natural Ecology of Ministry of Environmental Protection and representative of International Environmental Institute of MEP as well as the Experts from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University and China Foreign Affairs University etc. attended the meeting.

The idea of "China-ASEAN Strategy on Environmental Protection Cooperation" was put forward by Premier Wen Jiabao in Singapore on November 20, 2007 when the 11th China-ASEAN Summit was held with active response from ASEAN members. To put in place the follow-up of the initiative, the Development of International Cooperation organized the development of the first draft of the Strategy. The meeting put forward good and constructive comments on the improvement of the first draft of the Strategy.
