| A Workshop on Clean Production Technology & Product Policy Held in Beijing, China and ASEAN Promotes Mutual Recognition of Environment-label Products |
China¡ªASEAN Workshop on Clean Production Technology & Product Policy sponsored by MEP and undertaken by Environmental Certification Center was held in Beijing on July 26~27. More than 40 participants from National Clean Production Center, MEP Environmental Certification Center and ASEAN countries attended the meeting. The representatives from China and ASEAN countries have discussed and shared their experience in such areas as clean production technology, eco-label program, government green procurement and environmental label standard system in China. This workshop has laid a good foundation for further promoting China¡ªASEAN cooperation in this field.
MEP and ASEAN Secretariat jointly launched the China¡ªASEAN Strategy for Environmental Protection Cooperation in 2008. The Strategy chooses the two priority areas, i.e. public awareness & environmental education, environmental label and clean production cooperation as the basic contents. China¡ªASEAN Workshop on Clean Production Technology & Product Policy was held under this background.
China¡ªASEAN Workshop on Clean Production Technology & Product Policy aims at sharing environmental management ideas and technology among Chinese experts and the representatives from ASEAN members by discussing the topic on clean production and eco labeling. At the same time, based on the development of China¡ªASEAN Free Trade Zone, the cooperation, exchange and training activities will play an important role in the following areas: facilitating sustainable regional economic and environment development; promoting the cooperation on eco0labeling and clean production; helping relevant countries to set up environment label system; ensuring the effectiveness and accuracy of eco-labeled products in the region; carrying out joint research on common standard for eco-labeling products; raising the awareness in green products; facilitating mutual recognition of eco-labels in the region; conducting joint research on ways to promote green procurement and promoting sustainable consumption in the region.
