The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China and Convention on Biological Diversity, standardizing the sharing of benefits resulting from utilization and exchange of genetic resources, protecting the rights and interests of owner and user of genetic resources, facilitating the protection, reservation, utilization and foreign exchange of biological genetic resources in our country. The current standard specifies the principle, procedures, methods and requirement for evaluating economic value of genetic resources. The current standard is applicable to evaluating economic value of genetic resources within the territory of the People’s Republic of China or who’s origin place being within the territory of the People’s Republic of China. The current standard is issued for the first time in China.
