The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, standardizing the management of construction and operation of up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor projects, protecting and controlling water pollution, protecting the environment and ensuring human health,. The current standard specifies technical requirements for technology design, testing & control, work safety & health, construction and check & acceptance as well as operation and maintenance of up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors. The current standard is applicable to the design, construction, operation and management of the projects employing up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor to treat waste water with intermediate and high concentration of organic matters. It could serve as technical bases for EIA, design, construction, check & acceptance and post-construction operation and management of waste water treatment projects employing UASB reactor.
