The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution and Law of the People's Republic of China on Environmental Impact Assessment, standardizing and guiding environmental impact assessment of groundwater, protecting the environment and preventing and controlling groundwater pollution. The current standard specifies general principle, contents, mechanism, methods and requirements for assessing environmental impacts on groundwater. The current standard is applicable to environment impact assessment of the construction projects that employ groundwater as their water supply source and those that may impose impacts on groundwater environment. Groundwater environment impact assessment in environmental impact assessment of plans may refer to the current technical guide. The current standard is issued for the first time in China.
