The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, protecting the environment, ensuring human health and standardizing the determination method for volatile halogenated organic compounds in water. The current standard specifies headspace chromatography that determines the concentration of volatile halogenated organic compounds in water and waste water. The current standard is applicable to the determination of volatile halogenated organic compounds in surface water, groundwater, drinking water, marine water, industrial effluent and sewage. The specific ingredients include 14 kinds of compounds such as 1,1-dichloroethylene, dichloromethane, trans-1,2- dichloroethylene, chloroprene, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, trichloromethane, carbon tetrachloride, 1,2-dichloroethane, trichloroethylene, bromodichloromethane, tetrachloroethylene, dibromochloromethane, tribromomethane and hexachlorobutadiene. After verification, other volatile halogenated organic compounds may be determined using the current standard. The current standard is the amendment of Water Quality ——Determination of Volatile Halogenated Organic Compounds——Headspace Gas Chromatography (GB 17130-1997). The current standard was firstly released in 1997 and this is the first amendment. Water Quality——Determination of Volatile Halogenated Organic Compounds ——Headspace Gas Chromatography (GB/T 17130-1997) shall be nullified since the date of implementation of the current standard.
