Abstract:
 
The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, protecting the environment, ensuring human health and standardizing the methods determining the petroleum oils and animal and vegetable oils in water. The current standard specifies the infrared spectrophotometry that determines petroleum oils and animal and vegetable oils in water. The current standard is applicable to the determination of petroleum oils and animal and vegetable oils in surface water, groundwater, industrial effluent and sewage. The national environmental protection standard “Water quality─Determination of petroleum oils and animal and vegetable oils ─ Infrared spectrophotometry (GB/T 16488-1996)” shall be nullified since the date of the implementation of the current standard.
