Functions
Coordinate and supervise the ecological conservation and restoration efforts; Formulate and implement policies, laws, administrative regulations, departmental rules and standards regarding ecological conservation and restoration; Draft ecological conservation plans and evaluate the national ecological conditions; Guide the creation of ecological example demonstrations and innovative practices embodying the notion that “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”; Formulate and supervise the compliance of regulatory policies of natural reserves; Monitor the regulation of natural reserves and ecological conservation redlines; Supervise natural resource development and utilization activities, key environmental development activities, and ecological damage restoration activities that have an impact on the ecological environment; Supervise wildlife preservation, wetland ecological and environmental protection, and desertification prevention and control; Protect biodiversity, biological species resources (including biological genetic resources), and bio-safety; Operate the Secretariat of China National Committee for Biodiversity Protection, and the National Bio-safety Management Office; Carry out China’s role in relevant international conventions.
