Zhou Shengxian, MEP Minister and Executive Vice Chairperson of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), met in Beijing on November 16 with Achim Steiner, a member with the Council, UN Deputy Secretary General, and UNEP Executive Director. The two sides had exchanges on how to advance the cooperation between the Council and UNEP. Zhou said that CCICED owns its success to the generous supports of Mr. Steiner and UNEP. As for the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Zhou said that the Chinese Government has attached great importance to this event and China is ready to fully engaged in the conference and make its own contribution to the conference's success, with open-minded and pragmatic attitudes. Steiner spoke highly of China's open-minded attitudes in international cooperation on environment and hoped to hear more valuable comments from China.
