Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing Meets with Global President of US DuPont Company
MEP Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing met with Ms. Ellen Kullman, Global President and CEO of DuPont Company in Beijing on March 19. They exchanged their views on further strengthening cooperation in environmental field and issues of common concern.
Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing firstly on behalf of Ministry of Environmental Protection welcomed the delegation headed by Ms. Ellen Kullman and gave a brief introduction about the latest development of environmental protection work of China. He said, the guidelines for environmental protection at present and in the near future is adhering to environmental protection in the process of development and development in the process of environmental protection. Our strategy is to optimize economic growth by environmental protection. The main targets are that in 2015, there will be 16% reduction of energy consumption per unit GDP and 17% reduction of CO2 emission; 8% reduction of SO2 and COD, and 10% reduction of ammonia nitrogen and NOx emission respectively compared with that of 2010. The newly amended Ambient Air Quality Standard recently released by the State Council includes PM2.5 as a routine monitoring item. All these indicate that we are actively exploring a new path to environmental protection that is small in cost, good in benefits, low in emission and sustainable in development.
Wu Xiaoqing said, DuPont Company and Ministry of Environmental Protection have carried out a series of cooperation in environmental science & technology over the past years. In particular, the two sides have maintained good cooperation relations in the environment science & technology award projects and relevant scientific projects. He hoped that the Chinese side would strengthen exchanges and cooperation with DuPont Company in areas such as treatment and remediation of soil pollution and prevention and control of heavy metals pollution technologies. Meanwhile, we will learn advanced experience of DuPont in environmental protection of petrochemical field and carry out our study on development of relevant standards.
Ms. Ellen Kullman expressed her thanks to Wu Xiaoqing for his introduction. She said, DuPont attaches great importance to the good cooperative relations with Ministry of Environmental Protection. She hoped that the two sides keep on their in-depth cooperation in key fields of environmental protection, give full play of the advantages of DuPont Company and make contributions to environmental protection cause of China.
