The current standard is formulated for the purpose of implementing the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, protecting the environment, ensuring human health and standardizing the method determining organic carbon in soil. The current standard specifies the potassium dichromate oxidation— spectrophotometric method that determines organic contents in soil. The current standard is applicable to the determination of organic carbon in dried soil. The current standard is not applicable to the determination of saline soils or saline-alkali soil with Cl- concentration over 2.0×104 mg/kg. The current standard is issued for the first time in China.
