The standard was formulated for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and the guiding principle of the State Council for protection of quality safety of agricultural products, protecting the environment and human health, preventing environmental pollution and improving the standard for environmental quality of production base of edible agricultural products. Related aspects of production base of edible agricultural products concerning soil quality, water quality for irrigation and air quality are provided herein together with their concentration limit and methods for monitoring and assessment. The standard applies to production base of edible agricultural products rather than greenhouse vegetables.
