This standard is formulated for the purpose of implementing the Law of the People's Republic of China on Environmental Protection and Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Wastes, preventing and controlling the environmental pollution caused by hazardous wastes, enhancing the management of hazardous wastes, protecting the environment, and safeguarding people's health. This standard stipulates the criteria on screening test of hazardous wastes for acute toxicity. This standard shall be subject to compulsory enforcement according to relevant laws. This standard shall be effective as of October 1, 2007, and the Identification Standards for Hazardous Wastes-Screening Test for Acute Toxicity (GB 5085.2-1996) shall be annulled simultaneously.
