The current standard is developed for the purpose of implementing Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and Law of the People's Republic of China on the Promotion of Clean Production, protecting the environment and providing technical support and guidance for clean production of copper smelting enterprises. Based on meeting national and local pollutant discharge standards, the current standard specifies the general requirement for clean production of copper smelting enterprises in line with current technology, equipment and management level of the industry. The current standard identifies three grades. Grade I represents internationally advanced level of clean production. Grade II represents domestically advanced level of clean production. Grade III represents the basic level of clean production in China. The current standard will be revised at appropriate time with continuously progress and development of technology. The current standard is applicable to clean production examination, judgment of potential and opportunity of clean production, evaluation & publication system for clean production performance. It is also applicable to environmental management system such as environment impact assessment and pollutant discharge license of copper thermal smelting enterprise with copper sulfide concentrate as main raw materials (excluding copper smelting enterprise with waste copper as main raw materials and copper smelting enterprise employing wet method). The current standard is released for the first time in China.
