The standard was formulated for the purpose of enforcing the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, preventing pollution of soil, ground water and farm produce, ensuring human health, protecting eco environment and boosting economic development. It provides standard methods for application, sampling and monitoring of irrigation water quality. The standard applies to irrigation water drained from surface water, ground water, treated municipal sewage and industrial effluent with similar water quality to municipal sewage. It is not suitable for treated wastewater from such sectors as pharmaceutical, bioproducts, chemical agents, pesticides, oil refinery, coking and organic chemicals.
