The standard was formulated for the purpose of protection and reasonable development of ground water resources, prevention and control of ground water pollution, protecting human health and promoting economic development. It serves as the basis for prospecting and assessing ground water, development, use, supervision and management of the resource. The standard provides the classification of ground water quality, methods for monitoring and assessment of ground water quality and protection of the water quality. It applies to ordinary ground water except geothermal water, mineral water and brine.
